In an event co-hosted by the Bainbridge Island Psychotherapy Guild, clinical cross-cultural psychologist and educator Leyla Welkin, an island resident herself, discusses “True Friend,” her self-help guide for women who have been sexually abused and for their relatives and friends looking to lend informed support at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

In clear, accessible language, her book describes the effects of interpersonal trauma, offers exercises that survivors can use to help calm themselves and provides advice for people who want to be helpful.
