The Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild is putting on its 10th free festival Sept. 10 on Winslow Green.
The non-juried show features the artistry of quiltmakers from all over the Kitsap peninsula. Organizers expect to hang 250 or more works of textile art from scaffoldings on the Green and in selected locations along Winslow Way, creating a festive atmosphere. Original works from artists in Kitsap County, the Olympic Peninsula, Seattle and Tacoma will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Attendees will be able to participate in the Viewer’s Choice Award, purchase tickets for a raffle quilt and bid in a silent auction to benefit the World Central Kitchen.
Last year, over 400 visitors attended the show. “It is great fun to see the delight and surprise on the faces of attendees who are often awed and inspired by the beautiful art they see hanging in the show,” said Kathy Dwyer, festival chair.
The nonprofit guild was formed in 2013. Its mission is to develop and foster the art of modern quilting, to encourage new quilters and other fiber artists interested in nontraditional quilting projects, to offer educational opportunities through classes, workshops and sharing information, and to provide opportunities to give back to the community through the use of modern quilting skills.
Quilts created by the guild have been given to American Heroes, Project Linus and Pendleton Place in Bremerton.
