In the 1890s, Bainbridge Island pioneer Robert Cave brought seedlings to Bainbridge Island from the Kew Gardens in England. The trees were planted as part of a landscape idea for the tiny town of Winslow.
Five of these trees remain, including a 90-foot red oak, a sycamore and an elm.
Dr. Olaf Ribeiro, plant pathologist and arborist, will lead a walking tour of the historic trees of Winslow on Friday, April 24.
Reservations are required. Space is limited, so call the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum at 206-842-2773.
