Bainbridge Cinemas has been chosen to broadcast performances of the Metropolitan Opera live from the Met stage.

“The Met: Live in HD” series will be on screen Saturday mornings live in high definition on Bainbridge Cinemas’ largest screen.

“The exquisite images and Dolby Digital Sound will give our audiences literally the best possible seats in the house,” said Jeff Brein, co-owner of Bainbridge Cinemas.

The movie house is one of a few movie theaters in the Pacific Northwest, and the only one in Kitsap County, that will broadcast the performances.

The series will run through April 27, 2013.

Tickets are on sale at the Bainbridge Cinemas box office or online via the Bainbridge Cinemas Web site. Admission is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (65 and above) and $18 for children (11 and under).

The next performance is “Verdi’s Otello” at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Verdi’s Shakespearean masterpiece returns to the Met with Johan Botha in the title role opposite the acclaimed Desdemona of star soprano Renée Fleming. Semyon Bychkov will conduct.

On Nov. 10, it’s “The Tempest.” Composer Thomas Adès will conduct the Metropolitan Opera premiere of his own work, with baritone Simon Keenlyside starring as Prospero. Director Robert Lepage will recreate the interior of 18th-century La Scala in this inventive staging.

The theater will show “La Clemenza di Tito” on Dec. 1.

The virtuosic Elīna Garanča sings Sesto in Mozart’s drama set in ancient Rome. Giuseppe Filianoti is the noble Tito and Barbara Frittoli is Vitellia in the revival of one of the composer’s final masterpieces. Harry Bicket is conductor.

A new production of “Un Ballo in Maschera” will be presented on Dec. 8.

Director David Alden’s dreamlike setting will provide a compelling backdrop for this dramatic story of jealousy and vengeance. Marcelo Álvarez stars as the conflicted king; Karita Mattila is Amelia, the object of his secret passion; and Dmitri Hvorostovsky is her suspicious husband.
