The best-loved characters of the legendary Dr. Seuss will collide and cavort in “Seussical, Jr.,” a magical musical caper, coming Thursday, July 30 through Sunday Aug. 1 to Bainbridge Performing Arts.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters will spring to life onstage in this fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

“This summer’s production has the music, the humor and the spectacle that will engage audiences of all ages,” said Zandi Carlson, BPA Theatre School’s director of education. “We are so proud of the energy and enthusiasm our young performers bring to rehearsals. This will be such a fun and wondrous production.”

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.”

Horton’s challenge is twofold: Not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Shows are 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 as well as 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.
