The Bainbridge Dance Center’s 40th Annual Student Performances will take place online this year June 17-19.
Each evening at 6 a pre-recorded video of a performance will be released on their website at www.bainbridgedancecenter.com. The program each night will differ, and the videos will be available to watch for two weeks following their premiere.
June 17 will feature the Music & Dance, Ballet, Modern, Tap and Jazz classes. June 18 will showcase works created by student choreographers.
June 19 will be the premiere of the ballet Paquita performed by the Advanced Ballet Repertory dancers. Set in Spain during the occupation of Napoleon’s army, Paquita tells the story of a young girl who wins the love of the young French officer, Lucien d’Hervilly, when she saves his life. Having been abducted as a child, Paquita discovers a medallion that proves she is of noble birth and can marry Lucien.
Suggested donation of $15 per viewer goes toward student scholarships.
An island tradition since 1981, BDC’s performances showcase how young dancers develop over the course of years of training. Students age 3 to 20 will demonstrate their artistry. The dancers have continued to grow through a year of challenges and trials due to COVID-19.
There are also outdoor performances by class level for limited audiences. Call BDC at 206-842-1497 for details.
