Tyler Moniz Project hosts a Coffee Oasis forum

An upcoming forum at Bainbridge Island City Hall will feature a panel of speakers discussing the impetus behind a recent effort by the founders of the Tyler Moniz Project to bring a branch of Coffee Oasis to Bainbridge Island.

The forum is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24.

Speakers will include the Tyler Moniz Project founders Lee and Jeff Moniz on how they came to pursue bringing Coffee Oasis to Bainbridge Island; Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner on the challenges he sees island youth facing; Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson on her experience bringing Coffee Oasis to Poulsbo; and islander Hanna Nodsle on her experience receiving services from Coffee Oasis.

Coffee Oasis Crisis Intervention Manager Joshua Goss will also discuss his current involvement serving island youth and how coming to the island would expand the group’s ability to serve Bainbridge youth, and Coffee Oasis Founder Dave Frederick will be on hand to answer questions about the mission and work of Coffee Oasis.

A Bainbridge-based suicide prevention nonprofit, the Tyler Moniz Project launched a fundraising campaign earlier this year, seeking $2 million to bring a branch of Coffee Oasis to the island.

Headquartered in Bremerton, Coffee Oasis is a four-store Kitsap nonprofit chain which serves self-roasted coffee from direct-trade coffee beans, and provides gathering places and support programs for homeless youths age 13 to 25.
