Theatre Machine, a theater production group dedicated to putting on simple, thought-provoking works that address timely issues, will host an all-ages, post-Inauguration Day show, “Walk Forward: A Performance Event to Resist, Rebuild and Repair,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at Rolling Bay Hall.
Admission will be a pay-what-you-can donation, with the money set to be donated to the Sioux Tribe of Standing Rock, North Dakota and the Jackson Women’s Health Organization in Jackson, Mississippi.
“The purpose of this event,” according to the organizers, “is to come together as a community and do something to break the persistent feelings of loss and hopelessness experienced as the result of our most recent presidential election. Everyone’s heartbreak over the election return is coming from a different place. For many, it was not the ‘losing’ of the election that was so painful; it was the potential loss of all we struggled to attain.
“We just spent eight years saying and believing, ‘Yes we can.’ And then on Nov. 9, 2016 we were told very clearly: ‘No, you cannot.’”
Featured performers will include José Amador, Bill Badgley, Van Calvez, Christine Castigliano, Alissa Cattabriga, Liz Ellis, Cole Hornaday, Pearl Kleinb Janet Knox, Bhama Roget, Helen Roundhill, Cody Smith and Emma Wilkinson.
Theatre Machine was founded in 2008 by Suzannah Rogan, Melissa Fenwick, Molly Tomhave, Kristyn Bitner and Wilkinson.
