A free showing of “Time to Heal,” a 28-minute documentary celebrating two decades of stream restoration activism on Bainbridge Island will be 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at IslandWood followed by a discussion of current stream restoration and salmon protection projects. Travel as a political act:

Travel writer Rick Steves has literally been all over the planet, as the host, writer and producer of the popular PBS television series “Rick Steves’ Europe.” But it was his recent filming in Iran that led him to call it the most interesting place he’s ever been. It was also the impetus for a new book, Travel as a Political Act, (May 2009, Nation Books).

“Ideally, travel broadens our perspective personally, culturally, and politically,” he writes. And it is this message that he brings to Bainbridge Island in a multimedia presentation from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Bainbridge High School Commons, 9330 NE High School Rd.

The free community event is sponsored by the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation, Bainbridge High School, Eagle Harbor Book Co., The Traveler and Liberty Bay Books.

Steves will share the lessons he’s learned about what it means to be “both an American and a citizen of the world.”
