What’s Happening in Kitsap County | August 6

There’s nothing like a movie singalong, and the Historic Lynwood Theatre does them well.

Alive with the sound of singing

There’s nothing like a movie singalong, and the Historic Lynwood Theatre does them well.

This Sunday, the theater will hold two screenings of the 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, “The Sound of Music.” Even better, audience members – costumes encouraged – can belt out their favorite tunes along with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and the entire brood.

Charmian Carr, immortalized as “Liesl,” will be on hand for a special appearance.

Shows are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the theater, 4569 Lynwood Center Rd. Tickets are $12. For information, see www.lynwoodtheatre.com.

Clay is back at BAC this month

Remember playing with clay as a kid? It was cool because it did anything you asked of it.

At Bainbridge Arts and Crafts this month, artists Wally Bivins, John Ellefson, Larry Halvorsen, Liza Halvorsen, and Laurel Lukaszewski take clay and carve it, flatten it, squeeze it, fold it, shape it, mold it, and extrude it – think pasta machine. Fun!

Head over to the park tonight

Enjoy some spicy Latin jazz with Trombanga from 7-8:30 p.m. this evening at Waterfront Park.

Bring the family and a picnic.

Free Kidimu day

Come to the Kids Discovery Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 to enjoy a free admission day.

Explore amazing outdoor and indoor exhibits, including “Blue Man Group – Making Waves,” to discover the mysteries of sound, and “Dino Dig,” that lets kids be paleontologists.

The water tables are also open; cool off as you play “Under the Sea” to become a pirate, a lobster or a marine biologist.

Also, don’t miss Briana Whitehead at 10:30 a.m. for a feet-on discovery of sound and dance. Where does the sound come from and how do tap dancers make it happen?
