Bainbridge Island dentist revolutionizes teeth replacement with new patent

New technology aims to transform life after tooth loss with a natural, patient-centered solution

A groundbreaking new technology from Fairy Tale Dental, recently patented by Bainbridge dentist Dr. Helena Soomer-Lincoln, promises an innovative alternative to traditional dentures and implants.

This new approach addresses common issues faced by the 40 million Americans living without teeth – 90 per cent of whom turn to dentures, despite their often uncomfortable, bulky and restrictive nature.

“Dentures have several drawbacks,” says Dr. Soomer-Lincoln. “They’re removable, they cover taste buds, and they can make food less enjoyable. Many people find them cumbersome and unnatural to the body.”

But dentures are not the only option. Permanent bridges placed on implants are another choice. However, current methods require substantial bone removal to insert a prosthetic. Consequently, fewer than 10 percent of people choose this route due to the high costs, invasive nature and health requirements.

With these limitations in mind, Dr. Soomer-Lincoln developed a new method that preserves a patient’s existing bone and gum tissue, making it less invasive and more sustainable for long-term dental health.

The process maintains any remaining natural teeth and uses smaller, socket-sized implants that don’t require extensive bone removal. “We only remove diseased areas, keeping all healthy bone intact,” Dr. Soomer-Lincoln explains. “This keeps the rest of the mouth strong and allows us to attach teeth that feel natural, both in look and function.”

The new system, called ‘TruBridge,’ is tailored to fit each patient’s unique dental structure. Using a combination of water lasers, and computer simulations, the technology mimics the natural peaks and valleys of teeth, creating a bridge that integrates with a person’s existing gum and bone structure.

“Our bridge is inspired by the natural landscape of the Olympic Peninsula. It’s not perfectly symmetrical, but that’s what makes it feel like your own teeth,” she explains. “Patients are amazed at how real it feels; they can bite, chew and sense temperature changes just as they would with natural teeth.”

Innovation offers far-reaching possibilities

The new technology also has the potential to transform lives by supporting better nutrition and enhancing confidence. “When you can taste your food, smile and laugh without worry, it changes everything,” says Dr. Soomer-Lincoln. The solution is ideal for patients who still have some healthy teeth and want to avoid the complications that come with both dentures and traditional implants.

Fairy Tale Dental’s patented technology could become a new standard in restorative dentistry, particularly for patients in good health who want a natural-feeling solution without sacrificing bone or gum tissue. “The bone is incredibly resilient,” she says. “Given the right environment, it can renew itself and provide a stable foundation. Our approach respects that capability.”

Now teaching her method to other dentists, Dr. Soomer-Lincoln hopes her work will bring more affordable and accessible care to those who have been limited by existing options. For more information, visit fairytaledental.com. Make sure to follow them on Facebook for any updates!
