122 Bar and Restaurant burns down

The 122 Bar and Restaurant on Bainbridge Island burned down early Monday morning.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department responded to a two alarm fire at the 122 Bar and Restaurant on Winslow Way early Monday morning.

The fire is currently under control and mostly extinguished. Fire crews remain putting out hot spots throughout the building.

It is expected to be a total loss. Winslow Way west of Madison Avenue is closed off as fire crews tackle what is left of the fire.

Witnesses noticed smoke coming from the building shortly before calls to began flooding into 911 around 4:44 a.m. The owners, who live in the neighborhood, were notified by friends in the area around the same time. They ran to their establishment, beating some fire trucks there.

By 5 a.m. the windows of the bar began blowing out, one by one.

“First units on scene found the restaurant to be fully (engulfed),” said Fire Marshal Luke Carpenter. “We called for a second alarm which brought units from Poulsbo Fire, North Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and Federal Fire from Bangor Base.”

Trucks and fire fighters from Poulsbo and North Kitsap Fire and Rescue surrounded the blaze. Ladder 61 from from Federal Fire was also on scene.

No cause has been determined yet. Restaurant owners have made contact with all the restaurant’s employees to make sure no one was inside.
