A 13-year-old Bainbridge girl was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver on Sportsman Club Road Thursday evening.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton for treatment of injuries to her leg and arm, police said. She was conscious after the impact and used a cell phone to call for help.

The girl was walking northbound against traffic at around 7:45 p.m. when an oncoming Honda automobile “wandered” over the fog line onto the shoulder and struck her with its fender and side mirror, police said. The impact sheared off the side mirror and pitched the girl to the roadside, but the driver did not stop.

The victim called a relative, who in turn phoned 911. She was treated by aid units at the scene and was said to be conscious and alert as she was taken to the hospital.

Bainbridge Police are asking for the community’s help in identifying the damaged Honda and its driver. The Honda has a missing passenger-side mirror and may have damage to the front passenger-side fender.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Bainbridge Island Police at 842-5211. Callers may remain anonymous if desired.
