Three people have been arrested in the 2006 murder case of 33-year-old Shanan Lynn Read.
On Aug. 8, Brian Anderson Bourquard, 39, was arrested for murder in the first degree in Philadelphia, Penn. On Aug. 9, Oscar Cash Gonzales, 34, was arrested for first-degree murder in Riverside, CA. Also on Aug. 9, Brandon Michael Reeve, 42, was arrested for second-degree murder in Sarasota, Fla.
Each is being held on $10 million bail. A fourth suspect, Anthony Marou Martinez, has died.
All three suspects remain in custody pending extradition. They will ultimately be transported to Washington state and booked into the Kitsap County Jail to face charges.
A sheriff’s office news release Aug. 11 describes the brutal slaying of Read.
On Jan. 15, 2006, Read’s decomposed body was found in a plastic container floating in Puget Sound between Manchester and Blake Island. Two months later, her head surfaced in the same vicinity. She was identified using fingerprint analysis.
Detectives identified four suspects. It took 16 years of investigation, but within the last 10 months, leads have confirmed the participation of the four in the killing.
The long investigation revealed that Read was killed in August of 2005 after being struck in the head with a metal baton at an apartment in Seattle. She was taken to a cabin in Port Orchard, where she ultimately died. Michael Thomason was recruited to help dispose of the body in January of 2006. He was later convicted of unlawful disposal of human remains.
This June, special agent Jimmy Kilgallen of the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service, presented the case to the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office. Warrants were issued for three of the suspects who live out of state. County detectives and Kilgallen partnered with multiple federal and state agencies to locate and arrest the three.
