The Virginia V will rounding Bainbridge Island again for a benefit for the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum.
Organizers encourage people to sign up now so they can soak in the views of the waterfront as the historic vessel circumnavigates Bainbridge Island. The Virginia V, one the last of the “Mosquito Fleet” steamers, will embark for the cruise from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16. Riders will have the opportunity to watch the 1898 steam engine operate and will even be able to give the steam whistle a pull from the pilot house.
Former Secretary of State Ralph Munro will also be coming along for the ride, and will share the history of the numerous docks and communities that grew up along the island’s shore.
A box lunch will be included on the trip, as well as an informative map of the 31 Bainbridge steamer landings that surrounded the island with a description of the early 1900s settlements. There will also be a no-host bar.
Tickets are $125 ($100 for members of the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum) and are set to go fast, so organizers are encouraging a sooner-rather-than-later call to 206-842-2773 for guaranteed seats.
