And the fall races look like this…

Friday’s last-minute filings created a four-way race for the at-large City Council seat on Bainbridge Island, but none of the four candidates is incumbent Michael Pollock. As promised earlier this week, Pollock, a Crystal Springs resident, filed in the city’s new southwest ward, where he will oppose former council member Jim Llewellyn.

And in the north ward, attorney Bob Scales filed to run against former council member Annette Stollman for the seat being vacated by two-term member Norm Wooldridge.

In the at-large seat, environmental activist Arnie Kubiak and Seabold Road resident Nezam Tooloee joined announced candidates Larry Johnson and Christopher “Kit” Spier in the race for the all-island seat, requiring a September primary.

In the north ward, Annette Stollman, who previously served six years on the council as Annette Lancey, will run against Scales, a former prosecutor and mediator who now works as a senior policy analyst with the city of Seattle.

One-term council member Pollock chose to run against Llewellyn because he did not believe anyone should run without an opponent.

“I think it de-legitimizes a candidate to run unopposed,” Pollock said in explaining his decision to challenge former council member Llewellyn.

Llewellyn represented the city’s central ward from 1998 to 2002, but lost a bid for re-election to Deborah Vann. Redistricting then moved Llewellyn’s Battle Point home from the central ward into the new southwest ward.

Southwest ward incumbent Christine Nasser Rolfes will run unopposed for a seat that will, this year only, have a term of two rather than four years.

The only other race to draw enough of a crowd to prompt a primary is the open seat on the island’s park district board being vacated by Dane Spencer. Thomas Kilbane of Weaver Road and Jackie Kimpton of Pine Way have joined Richard LaBotz of Springridge Road in seeking that seat.

Incumbent park board commissioners Ken DeWitt, Dave Shorett and Kirk Robinson are unopposed.

The three available seats on the school board are also uncontested. Incumbents Bruce Weiland and Cheryl Dale have filed for another term in districts 1 and 3 respectively, and Dave Pollock of Point White Drive has filed for the southwest seat being vacated by Ken Breiland.

The only candidate to file for the island’s fire district board of commissioners is West Port Madison resident Earl Johnson, seeking the seat on the three-person board that Doug Johnson is relinquishing.

Incumbent Fort Ward sewer district commissioner Sarah Lee is unopposed.
