The Nakata Pool at the Bainbridge Aquatics Center will be getting a brand new deck.
Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District accepted the $64,455 bid by Ironclad Industrial Flooring at the park board’s meeting earlier this month. The company beat out four other bidders: Cascade Industrial, Combined Construction Inc., WMS Aquatics and Coatings Unlimited.
The bid from Ironclad was not the lowest that the parks district received, but according to Mark Benishek, recreation division director, the price was not the only factor in selecting a bid.
“The price was not the sole determining factor when selecting a bidder. Our decision was based on a number of factors which included; product durability, ease of maintaining/cleaning, product & installation warranty, positive reference feedback, finished production appearance, and the ability to meet our time schedule for project completion,” Benishek said.
While the Nakata Pool will be closed during construction, the impact of the project is expected to be relatively minimal as the Ray Williamson Pool and the locker rooms will remain open during the project.
Parks officials have also scheduled the project at a time of year which will not have an impact on swim teams or classes.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late May of this year and conclude in early June.
