The city of Bainbridge Island has been without an attorney for less than two weeks, but it already has plenty of lawyers vying to step into the position.

Former city attorney Will Patton submitted his resignation letter to the city in early November. He finished out the year at city hall and then retired. The city is currently without an in-house attorney.

At its annual retreat on Sunday, Jan. 6 City Manager Doug Schulze told the council that the city may look into contracting legal work to an outside party. In the meantime, resumes have been showing up at city hall.

“We do have some candidates for a lawyer, around 20,” Schulze said at the retreat.

“Some of them have no municipal experience at all. Some are those who want to move back to Bridgetown Island, and others have some municipal experience,” he said.

Schulze indicated that he would like to address the matter during the coming weekly council meetings.
