10:53 p.m. A man called police after his daughter’s ex-boyfriend came to the family’s home and started banging on the door. The man said the ex-boyfriend had repeatedly been told his daughter did not want to see him anymore, and he was not to come by the house. The man also said the ex-boyfriend, 20, was seen hiding in some bushes on the property.
The ex left before police arrived, but an officer saw him driving past in a 2009 Hyundai on Wyatt Way and tried to get him to pull over, but he wouldn’t comply.
When police turned around, the man made a quick turn onto Finch Avenue and accelerated. The trailing officer turned onto Finch Avenue and found the car in a nearby driveway.
When asked what he was doing, the young man yelled, “I live here!”
The officer told the driver he knew he actually lived on Wing Point Drive. When police asked for his driver’s license, the man said he forgot his wallet. When he was then told to get out of his car, the man reached into a door pocket and said he found his wallet.
The man asked police why he was being stopped in an aggressive manner and then began cursing.
The officer became worried about a physical confrontation and asked the man to put his hands behind his back. The man then began yelling, “Why am I being arrested?”
He was told he was being detained as police investigated a report of criminal trespassing, and it appeared he had been trying to evade police.
The man continued to yell, curse and denied trying to get away.
He was handcuffed and asked to sit in a police vehicle, but he refused and then asked for an attorney.
Police discovered the man did not have a driver’s license as he never paid a reinstatement fee. The officer decided to release the driver as police were needed for an earlier DUI transport case and one officer needed to remain available. The man was told not to return to his former girlfriend’s house or he would be arrested.
The man brought his father to the police department later that night and the father wanted to know why his son had been detained. When an officer tried to explain, the son interrupted and shouted obscenities at the officer. When his father told him to go to the car and wait, he continued to curse and made an inappropriate hand gesture toward the officer. When the man and his son eventually left, the son yelled a homophobic slur at police and repeated the inappropriate hand gesture, using both hands.
