SATURDAY, SEPT. 17

4:39 p.m. Police discovered an unmanned boat run aground near South Beach.

The weather was quite bad at the time and the vessel was pushed against the breakwater and damaged. It was decided conditions were too rough to allow a salvage attempt and the boat owner stayed nearby to monitor the situation.

The next day, the boat owner said he’d been unable to arrange a tow via Vessel Assist and officers used the Marine 8 police boat to tow it to Southworth, where the owner anchored it.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 13

10:14 a.m. A 45-year-old Bainbridge Island man called police to report somebody had stolen his identity and used it to open several new credit card accounts.

The man said somebody had used his personal information to create at least two new credit card accounts. He had been called by Capital One, he said, after somebody had attempted to change the email address associated with his account. The caller apparently had all the necessary information — the victim’s name, address, Social Security number, date of birth and mother’s maiden name — but could not provide the current account email so the change was denied.

Then the man found a parcel in his mail from Chase Bank containing two new credit cards, one in his name and the other for “Joseph Grant.”

The man said he does have valid accounts with both Chase and Capital One, but has no idea how somebody could have obtained his information.

The new accounts were canceled and police filed a report.
