Wednesday, Dec. 24
10:50 a.m. A 2007 Toyota Camry was damaged by a hit-and-run driver after it was left in a parking lot on High School Road. A witness said another driver in a white SUV with Oregon plates backed into the vehicle then drove away.
9:50 p.m. Police pulled into the parking lot at the fire station on Phelps Road after seeing a man trying to get out of the vehicle while it was still rolling through the parking lot.
Police talked to the man, who had been a passenger in the car, and he had trouble standing on his feet. It also appeared he had wet his pants.
The man said he had an argument with the driver, his girlfriend. The girlfriend said they were on the way home. They had been arguing after they had gone to a holiday party and her boyfriend had gotten very drunk.
The man, 51, told police he had spilled something on his jeans, and he had not wet his pants. Police said they could not leave the two together and offered to give the man a ride home.
The woman, 44, said she would go to the casino for a few hours while he calmed down.
Tuesday, Dec. 23
4:15 p.m. Two drivers collided on Madison Avenue after they both pulled out of parking lots onto Madison and didn’t see the other driver coming.
The drivers, a 62-year-old woman in a 2006 Honda and a 69-year-old woman in a 2012 Audi, were not injured in the crash.
8:31 p.m. A 58-year-old woman from Indianola rear-ended the driver in front of her while leaving the ferry in stop-and-go traffic.
The man in the car that had been hit from behind said he asked the woman to pull over so they could exchange information, but when he asked for her insurance card, she gave him her Social Security card. The woman’s car, a Subaru, and front-end damage; the hood was bent upward and the grill and front bumper was smashed in.
The woman told police she had one glass of wine on the ferry. She failed roadside sobriety tests, and when asked to take a breath test, she made a blowing motion with her lips but police could see no air was coming out of her mouth.
On the next try, she bit down on the tube that was attached to the breathalyzer.
She was taken to the police station, but further attempts to get a breath test failed when she would not blow enough into the device and it timed out.
After more attempts, test results came back with readings of .156 and .151. She was taken to the Kitsap County Jail and booked for DUI.
11:50 p.m. A 27-year-old Bellingham man went off the road while driving south on Highway 305 just north of Day Road.
The man said he was driving his 1992 Honda Accord and noticed he was heading for the ditch just north of the bus stop, but he slammed on his brakes, lost all steering, and slid into the ditch.
Police found no signs of impaired driving. The vehicle was pulled out by a tow truck.
