TUESDAY, SEPT. 5
2:10 p.m. An 84-year-old Vashon Island man driving a 2000 Ford van had his foot slip off the brake pedal and hit the gas accidentally in the parking lot of an island hardware store.
His van jerked into a wooden support pole connected to the front awning of the store. It cracked, broke away from the sidewalk and will reportedly need to be replaced.
The van sustained a small scuff on the right rear bumper, but no other damage.
Several bags of compost outside the store were also damaged.
There were no injuries.
