SATURDAY, AUG. 15

1:57 p.m. A 56-year-old mailman was bitten by a dog in the 200 block of Shepard Way Northwest.

The man said he had been delivering mail when a loose dog came up from behind and bit him on the inside of his right calf below the knee.

The owner of the dog, a 36-year-old Bainbridge woman, was contacted by police.

3:03 p.m. Two residents in the 13800 block of Madison Avenue called police to complain about loud vehicle noise coming from a nearby property.

Police found the source of the sounds, which were coming from a birthday celebration for a 57-year-old Bainbridge man.

The man told police that for decades he’s held a large celebration, which includes vehicle exhibitions, on his birthday. The party includes people doing burnouts in their cars on his private driveway.

He said his immediate neighbors take no issue with the event and it was just one afternoon out of the year. He also said he does not feel he is being unreasonable and said he took steps to attain a permit from the city.

Two people in the neighborhood called to complain about revving motors and other noise; a 58-year-old Bainbridge woman and a 64-year-old Bainbridge man. The woman said the noise was so loud she couldn’t sit outside peacefully.

An officer was not at the scene long enough to hear the noise.

Police called the birthday man and told him his neighbors were still not happy. The man was advised of the city’s noise ordinance but the man said he felt the ordinance did not apply as the noise was within reason.

Police contacted the city’s code enforcement agent, and also vowed to look into the man’s attempt to get a permit and assist everyone involved in finding a resolution so it does not happen every year.
