Bainbridge blotter | Rowdy rider on the ferry

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

TUESDAY, AUG. 21

11:25 p.m. A call to assist the Washington State Patrol with an unruly ferry passenger ultimately resulted in island officers arresting the 46-year-old transient for outstanding warrants.

Called to the M/V Tacoma by a report of an unruly passenger, police arrived to find WSF staff detaining the involved parties, including the man supposedly responsible for the ruckus.

By way of ID, the man produced a King County Jail booking sheet, saying he’d been released earlier that day. On the ferry, he said he’d been looking at a nearby woman and her boyfriend took exception and threw popcorn at him. He left the area and returned to the main passenger cabin, certain that onboard video surveillance would vindicate him.

Police took the man off the boat to a nearby patrol car to await officers, who would lead the investigation as it had occurred onboard the ferry. While waiting, police ran the man’s name for outstanding warrants and found at least one, from Bremerton. They confirmed it and finally handed the man over to state troopers, who took him to jail.
