Bainbridge blotter | Taking it to the curb

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

MONDAY, SEPT. 23

1:20 p.m. A 31-year-old Bainbridge Island woman suffered numerous “pinprick” lacerations when a rock was flung through the windshield of her 2014 Subaru Outback.

The woman was driving south on Highway 305 when a northbound vehicle apparently ran over the rock, sending it into her windshield. It came through the glass and was later found in the cargo area of the car. She was peppered with shards and received numerous tiny cuts.

Her children, also in the car, were unharmed.

A report was filed.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 26

8:19 p.m. An 86-year-old Bainbridge Island man struck another vehicle while attempting to back out of a parking space, pushing it out of its own space, over the curb and into a wooden fence, which in turn struck an outdoor air conditioning unit.

The other vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Sonic, was unoccupied at the time.

The man had been reversing out of a parking space when he struck the other car, then accelerated. He told a nearby witness he would be right back after picking up his son. He said he needed help handling the accident. Then, he left the scene.

The man was found at his home and cooperated with police. He was unhurt and said he accidentally struck the other car and then, believing he’d shifted his vehicle into drive, began to accelerate, but quickly found he was actually still in reverse.

The Chevy was able to be driven and the owner said she’d driven it home after calling her insurance agency.

All parties involved were provided with an exchange of information form.

A report was filed.
