Friday, Feb. 1

7 p.m. A survey crew reported that a laser measuring device was stolen from near the shore off Creosote Place. The device was placed there every day to help the crew with their work on the water. It is valued at $1,250.

Saturday, Feb. 2

1:31 a.m. A woman living on North Madison Avenue called police after she was woken up by harassing text messages. The texts continued all night and did not stop. She told officers that she had recently gotten into an argument with a friend from Bremerton who may have been responsible for the messages. She further said that someone might be trying to break up her and her fiancé. While she was talking with police, the messages continued to arrive. “You smell like fish,” one message said. “You a slut, get a life, (expletive),” another stated. Police called the number and left a voicemail saying that the texts amounted to harassment and requested that they stop. Police also tried to reboot the phone, but the texts continued to come in. Police advised that the woman turn her phone off for the night.

Officers called the number again at 5:15 p.m. later that day. A Bremerton woman answered and said she sent the texts, but used a function on her phone she had never used before. She did not know how many times the messages were sent, and she didn’t know how to stop it. The woman said she sent the text for a friend. The island woman knew both the Bremerton women, and said she would like to handle it by talking with them.
