Saturday, June 9
4:33 p.m. A resident on Endicott Street violated an anti-harassment order placed against her as she blocked her neighbors car and took photographs of them.
The woman claimed that her neighbor had stolen yard debris that she left in her yard, however, police felt that the area where the debris was left was in the right of way of the road.
The neighbor had removed the debris from the side of the road to dispose of it. When she saw her neighbor, she ran to block his car and take photographs which she felt was not a violation of her anti-harassment order as it was documenting a crime.
Police told the woman that they did not believe that any crime had been committed. Police gave her their card if she had anymore questions.
Later that day, the woman called police asking if she could get her twigs and debris back, but was told that since she left the material in the right of way, and it was not legal to do so, the retrieval would be unlikely.
Later on, the neighbor called police to notify them that the woman was now, again, placing yard debris in the same area on the side of the road.
Sunday, June 10
2:51 a.m. After receiving reports of an attempted theft of a soda machine in the area of High School Road and Ferncliff Avenue, police pursued a truck matching witness descriptions of the suspect’s truck. Even after police sounded their siren and flashed their lights, the truck attempted to elude them.
Police eventually stopped the car when it pulled onto Beaver Bend, a dead-end road. The passenger of the truck immediately fled the vehicle on foot. After having the driver exit the vehicle with his hands up and lay face down on the ground, police contacted the him and discovered he was covered in wet blue paint.
The 23-year-old driver told police that he had just met some recent high school graduates and they were going to drive around the island and paint “2012” at various locations. They planned to take the soda machine from its location, paint “2012” on it and place it at the end of a road.
The driver also said that he knew he drove down a dead-end street and did so because he thought it would be a good place for his passenger to flee and get away from the police. He said that he didn’t mind taking the fall so the student could go to college.
The driver was arrested for malicious mischief and attempting to elude police.
