Thursday, May 28

2:04 p.m. A 72-year-old woman said she left her car parked in front of the library and left the passenger door open while she returned a bunch of books.

There was a man on the bench next to the front door, and next to him, a bike.

When she came back to her car, the man and the bike were gone, and so was the leather purse she left in her vehicle.

There was $20 inside.

Wednesday, May 27

1:39 a.m. Police watched a speeding driver on Highway 305 near Hidden Cove Road and clocked the vehicle at 95 mph.

The driver was stopped, and he smelled strongly of intoxicants.

He said he had not been drinking. After a while, however, he admitted to have one beer at his girlfriend’s house hours earlier.

The driver, a 20-year-old Bainbridge man, was given field sobriety tests.

He failed, and was arrested.

Later breath tests had readings of .183 and .181.

The man was booked into jail and bail was set at $5,000.
