10:01 p.m. Police stopped a speeding driver on Highway 305 south of Seabold after he was picked up by radar at a speed of 80 mph.

The driver, a 21-year-old Bainbridge man, said he thought he was driving 50 mph. He said he lived in Los Angeles but went to school on Bainbridge and was back on the island to visit his mother.

He admitted to drinking a glass of wine during dinner a few hours earlier. Police said he failed roadside sobriety tests, and when asked to perform a breath test, he blew so softly it did not register.

He was arrested for DUI. The driver then offered to redo the breath test, but officers said he attempted to beat the breathalyzer several more times before giving a sample that could be tested. That test registered a level of .08.

During a search of the vehicle, suspected marijuana was found, but that was left in the vehicle because the man was of legal age.

A later breath test registered levels of .085 and .082. He was booked into Kitsap County Jail for DUI.

The woman told police the man had admitted taking her medication to her and her mother.

Police found the man aboard the ferry to Seattle. He denied taking the drugs and police searched the man and did not find any pills.

The woman who reported the theft was not satisfied and asked police to do a cavity search, but police said they couldn’t without a court order.

5:21 p.m. A 51-year-old woman on NE Dolphin Drive said a package containing sunglasses and a T-shirt that had been left on her porch by UPS was stolen sometime on Dec. 23. The items were valued at $170.
