An architect who has been a Bainbridge Island resident for 36 years will soon share his expertise with the Bainbridge Island Planning Commission.

The city council unanimously appointed William Chester to Position 5 on the advisory body during the council’s meeting earlier this month.

Chester will serve for the remainder of a three-year term that concludes in June 2016.

The new commissioner has been an architect for more than 40 years, and has led projects ranging from custom homes on Bainbridge Island to large apartment and condo projects in Bellevue and Seattle. Chester earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1973 from the University of Idaho and has been a registered architect in Washington since 1978.

The planning commission is an advisory body to the city council, and offers recommendations on proposed changes to the comprehensive plan and city zoning, and also weighs in on other topics as needed.
