It’s been all talk until now.

The Bainbridge Island City Council will consider an agreement with the Bainbridge Island Fire Department to begin planning for a joint police and fire station at its meeting Monday night.

In light of the July 4 holiday this week, the city council has moved its usual Wednesday meeting to Monday night.

Under the a proposed contract, the city and the island’s fire department would pool their resources to examine the idea of combining under one roof. The shared facility would house the police station and a portion of the fire department.

The agreement notes that a space planning consultant may be hired to assist with the process. The city and the fire department will split the cost of the consultant.

City Manager Doug Schulze has previously expressed a desire to move the police department from its current location on Winslow Way and Highway 305.

The council will also address the Rockaway Beach Road stabilization project, and the 2013 chip seal program at the Monday meeting.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, July 1.
