The Bainbridge Island resident who received a “presumptive positive” designation for 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in now being considered as a confirmed case of COVID-19, according to the Kitsap Public Health District.
Tad Sooter, public information officer for the Kitsap Public Health District, said officials were told Monday by the state Department of Health that the “presumptive positive” designation will no longer be used for cases that have not been confirmed by a second test.
“We were informed today by DOH that they will no longer be running confirmatory tests on positive results from other labs, so there will no longer be a ‘presumptive positive’ designation,” Sooter said.
Kitsap health officials announced Sunday that a Bainbridge Island resident had received test results from the University of Washington which resulted in a “presumptive positive” designation for COVID-19.
The Bainbridge case, reported March 8, is now listed as positive.
Kitsap health officials said there have been 14 residents who have submitted for testing at the state public health lab, and nine tests have come back negative.
Five other tests, done at other labs, have had negative results.
