Island Power is hosting a “Power Outage Forum” next weekend at Waterfront Park Community Center.
The group, which is spearheading a drive to create a public power utility that would be operated by the city of Bainbridge Island, will host the meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30.
Island Power’s co-chair Steve Johnson, the former executive director of the public utility district association, will give an overview of public power and the possible power outage and reliability strategies if the city ran its own nonprofit electric utility.
Attendees will hear PUD managers and public power utility commissioners detail how public power utilities reduced their power outages and increased reliability.
Organizers said there will be time for questions and discussion after the speakers conclude their remarks.
Island Power is a grassroots nonprofit with a goal to establish a carbon-free, locally controlled nonprofit electric utility on Bainbridge.
