Friday Night Lights are coming back to Bainbridge High School.
Not in the usual sense, however, for the promise of a big football game.
Instead, BHS will join schools across Washington in the #BeTheLightWA movement and turn on the lights at the Spartans’ football stadium Friday night.
The lights at BHS Memorial Stadium will come on at 8:20 p.m. to honor the seniors in the Class of 2020, who had their season cut short due to COVID-19 outbreak.
The BHS campus is currently closed, so people cannot go to the stadium to participate.
Instead, the Bainbridge Island School District is encouraging families on the island to participate at home (while maintaining social distance guidelines) by standing outside at 8:20 p.m. and shining a flashlight (or cellphone light) into the night’s sky to honor the Class of 2020.
People who join in the event can share a photo on social media using the hashtags #BeTheLightWA (hashtag created by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) and #BISD2020 (hashtag for the Bainbridge community).
