A Bainbridge High School student arrested for allegedly dealing cocaine has been found guilty for possession of the drug.

The 17-year-old boy pled guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine during a court hearing in March. He was sentenced to secured detention with the state’s Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration for 15 to 36 weeks.

The young man was discovered with cocaine in his possession as police officers and detectives were surveilling another suspect for an unrelated case involving an upshirt voyeur. While following the suspect, an assisting Poulsbo detective noticed the young man with some other boys at Safeway with a suspicious metal tin.

The tin, a cigarette case, was later found to contain several plastic bags carrying a total of 2.5 grams of cocaine.

After police finished their surveillance, they returned to the Safeway area and tracked down the high school boys at the gazebo at the Bainbridge Public Library. The young man was found with cocaine powder on his nose and $250 in his possession.

The 17-year-old BHS student admitted to officers that he purchased cocaine in Seattle and brought it onto the island to sell. Island detectives said his main market was the high school.
