Planning director
Patricia Charnas has been selected as the new Planning and Community Development director for Bainbridge Island.
She will begin May 16. She replaces Heather Wright, who took a similar job in Poulsbo in November. Mark Hoffman served during the interim.
Charnas is a Kitsap County resident with 26 years of planning experience. She was previously director of the Jefferson County Department of Community Development. In addition, she has served in multiple planning positions with Kitsap County for over a decade. She is past president of the state Association of County and Regional Planning Directors. She as also worked for the Environmental Protection Agency.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master of Science in education from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Public Health, with a distinction in environmental health, from Yale.
In her new job, she will implement the city’s land-use policies and regulations through planning and building permit review, ordinance development and code compliance.
Large art
Roby King Gallery on Winslow Way in Bainbridge Island will be showcasing “Large Works” from local artists from May 6-19.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be May 6 from 6-8 p.m. Regular hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
COVID-19 masks are not required, but social distancing and vaccinations are encouraged.
Looking ahead to June, “Three Visions of the Northwest” is the theme, with featured artists Brooke Borcherding, Taralee Guild and Paul Polson.
Also, Bainbridge Homes Real Estate is open for First Friday with paintings about moving toward summer.
