Bainbridge Island briefs

New mural

Bainbridge High School teacher Andre Chaisson and some of his students helped beautify downtown recently by painting a mural.

It says simply, “Downtown,” and provides an arrow directing visitors. It certainly is an improvement over the previous brick retaining wall.

The mural is located just off Winslow Way between Isla Bonita restaurant and Orchard, which is the old Virginia Mason clinic, across from the Town & Country grocery store.

“This brand-new downtown art installation by young and talented island artists and their teacher has done much to improve the appearance and experience of this much traveled alley,” says a news release from Priscilla Zimmerman, managing partner of Haggar Scribner Properties, which owns the property.

Tree fix

The Red Oak tree the Bainbridge Island Historic Museum will be getting fixed after developing a large crack.

The Heritage and Landmark Tree will receive temporary bracing for $3,000 to stabilize it. Another arborist suggested a $10,000 fix. Both agree the tree is deteriorating, posing a safety hazard.
