Pumpkin walk

The free Bainbridge Gardens Pumpkin Walk opened this week.

The owners encourage visitors to dress up in Halloween costumes and walk along a trail of hundreds of festively painted pumpkins. The public is encouraged to paint a pumpkin to add to the colorful collection on the trail. It’s open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 pm, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations benefit the BI Boys and Girls Club.

Food from Pedro’s Santa Maria Style BBQ, Sauced, Uncle Sassy’s Rollin’ Fire, and Puget Sound Pizza is available for purchase on alternating Saturdays. For details go to www.bainbridgegardens.com

Bus hits child

A child was hospitalized after a school bus collided with a cart he was riding in that had rolled down a hill Sept. 27, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office has reported.

The 5- or 6-year old boy was riding in the cart while being pulled up a steep driveway by another child around 3:25 p.m. When that child lost control, the cart carrying the boy rolled down onto the street and into the path of a school bus, officials said. The boy was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma. No students were on the bus at the time.
