Plays sought
Island Theatre is now accepting submissions of plays for the 12th annual 2025 Ten-Minute Play Festival.
Submission deadline is Feb. 14, 2025. The theme for the festival is ESCAPE.
What does ESCAPE suggest to you? Is it an escape from… or an escape to? Is it bold or surreptitious? Sudden or long-planned? An act of desperation or powerful self-assertion? Is it the beginning or end?
What you make of ESCAPE is up to you – just make sure it’s central to your story. The competition is open to all Kitsap County playwrights—high school and older. Ten plays will be chosen.

The event is for those 10 and older. It will start with a walk around the grounds learning about invasive plants. It will end in the Dining Hall with hot drinks and festive food.
Go to islandwood.org for details and tickets.
Meanwhile, on Black Friday, Nov. 29, Islandwood will be open for a free outdoor hike. Participants can bring Thanksgiving leftovers for a picnic.

A no-contact advisory has been issued for Kitsap Lake due to the spill through Nov. 22.

Firearms checks
The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has been able to restore online resources necessary for the Washington State Patrol to resume firearms background checks after a two-week delay.
The system for the state’s court systems also have been repaired. Suspension of data of both was caused by computer system security concerns. Both continued to collect data by hand or computer so it could be input quickly once service was restored.
Deets meeting
Bainbridge Island Mayor Joe Deets is having office hours to discuss city business with residents Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at CUPS Espresso, 123 Bjune Drive SE.
Correction
“Binding conditions” would provide the Bainbridge Island School District with oversight and counsel to support it in making budgetary decisions that will return them to financial health. OSPI would not make budgetary decisions on a district’s behalf until that district reached enhanced financial oversight. A story in last week’s paper was incorrect.
