New owners

Alexis Saloutos and Nikos Spiliopoulos are the new owner-operators of The Marketplace in Lynwood Center on Bainbridge Island.

They plan to expand hours, reopen the wine bar and bring back live music and events.

Previous owner John Jacobi said he bought what was Blossom Hill from a bank in a foreclosure action over a dozen years ago. After many landscaping and architecture improvements, he was ready to sell, and he thinks he found the perfect couple.

“Their reputation is impeccable,” Jacobi says in a news release.

Couture represents the 35th District, which includes parts of Kitsap County.

The House Appropriations Committee takes up budget-related legislation and the operating budget.

“I’m honored to be selected to help lead this important committee as we work to right the state budget and reign in the out-of-control spending we have seen from the majority party over the past decade,” said Couture, who also serves on the Education Committee and will serve as assistant floor leader in the session that starts Jan. 13. He will be responsible for organizing and managing debate on the House floor, developing legislative strategy and policy, and assisting caucus leadership in negotiations with the majority party.
