The Bainbridge Island Fruit Club’s next monthly meeting will be a question-and-answer session for club members.
Club members should bring questions and fruit/plant samples for ID’ing and tasting.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Darren Murphy’s home. Darren and his wife, Kari, will be offering an orchard/garden tour for interested folks of their suburban micro-farm. The couple grow more than 200 varieties of apples, pears, plums, peaches, cherries, grapes, figs, berries and kiwi as well as various vegetables on their 1/3 acre near the ferry terminal. Their farm was one of the four selected to be on the first Bainbridge Island Sustainable Garden tour a few years ago, and their garden also features various types of containers, raised beds and trellises — making for a great learning opportunity.
Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks/treats from their gardens. The Murphy’s plan on offering a number of grapes juices from last year’s crop for folks to sample.
The meeting location is 762 Klickitat Place NE.
