The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art  and Kids Discovery Museum are partnering to host a Military Appreciation Day on Friday, Aug. 29.

This special one-day event will feature an appearance by the Navy Band Northwest’s “Deception Brass” band from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Bainbridge Island Gateway Center Plaza adjacent to the art museum.

Active duty military personnel and their families will also enjoy free admission and hands-on activities throughout the day at each Bainbridge Island Blue Star Museum.

Blue Star Museums — more than 2,000 museums across America — annually offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their families between Memorial Day and Labor Day in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense.

“KiDiMu is honored to be a returning participant of the Blue Star Museums program, along with our community partners and neighbors, the art and historical museums,” said executive director Susie Burdick.

“We are thrilled that together we are able to offer a wider variety of cultural and educational enrichment opportunities to military families,” she said.

Complimentary cookies and lemonade will be provided on the plaza. Free event parking will be available in the lots behind KiDiMu.

Although Military Appreciation Day has been designed to recognize military personnel and their families, the community at large is also invited to join in the festivities.
