The Bainbridge Island School District has given notice to the Bainbridge parks district that it needs to move its after-school teen center behind Bainbridge High.
The center must go in order to make room for construction on the BHS 100 building.
District officials notified the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District that the move must happen no later than June 30.
Programs offered at the teen center are geared toward providing safe, year-round activities for middle and high schoolers, adult supervision nearby.
Though the district is required to give only 30 days notice, the district stated in its notification letter it “understands the challenges associated with a move and is extending the vacate notice until the end of June.”
According to Mark Benishek, recreation division director for Bainbridge parks, they will be looking to find a way to keep the program running.
“Once we have a formal plan together we will be presenting it to the park board for approval,” he said.
