Bainbridge Island’s Public Works Department has started its annual flushing of the city’s water system.

Each spring, the city carries out its flushing program to clean out the water system’s pipes.

During this time, islanders are likely to see a few water mains opened, with streams of water flowing down city streets.

The flushing program started Monday, March 25 and will continue through June.

City officials note that while flushing occurs, water pressure for some customers may briefly weaken.

Another possible side effect is the discoloration of water. Officials advise water customers to run cold water until the discoloration goes away.
