Marine Major Ryan Hough from Bainbridge Island has been named the recipient of the 2012 General Roy S. Geiger Award.

The award is given to the author of the best aviation article published during the 2011 calendar year, and will be presented at the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s Annual Awards Ceremony.

Hough is being honored for “It’s MUG Time,” published in The Marine Corps Gazette, July 2011.

Marine Corps Heritage Foundation President and CEO Lt. Gen. Robert Blackman, Jr., USMC (Ret.) will present the awards and Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos will be the keynote speaker. Seventeen awards will be presented to individuals who have contributed to advancing and preserving Marine Corps history.

Each year, the foundation recognizes both Marines and civilians in categories including historical scholarship, journalism, letters and arts, and more. Recipients this year are from across the country.

The ceremony is April 21 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation was established in 1979 as a nonprofit and is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Marine Corps history.
