Movies in the Park will be returning to Battle Point along with a brand-new inflatable screen.
An 18-foot-by-20-foot inflatable screen will be replacing the mobile stage and drop cloths previously used by the Bainbridge park district to show movies.
Park district officials were able to snatch up the screen for $3,000. A grant from the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation contributed $1,000 to the new screen, costing the park district only $2,000.
According to park district officials, the old screen had a tendency to blow in the wind, distracting the viewers. The new, inflatable screen — purchased in part with funds provided by the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation — will provide a much less distracting experience for moviegoers.
Last year’s movies at Battle Point Park brought approximately 600 to 800 visitors for each showing.
The new screen is expected to get some serious mileage this year with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” showing on Sept. 1, and “La La Land,” following on Sept. 8.
