A Bainbridge High school teacher has been arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with a minor student at BHS.
The teacher was identified as Jessica M. Fuchs, 25.
She was arrested Thursday and booked into Kitsap County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000.
Police said in addition to the first-degree sexual misconduct charge, the teacher is also accused of communication with a minor for immoral purposes and tampering with a witness, a felony.
Police said there was only one victim, a teenage male.
The claim of inappropriate conduct between the teacher and the student was made to Bainbridge High administrators in the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Bainbridge Island School District officials announced the allegations through an email to parents the following night, and said that police had been contacted that morning. District officials pledged that the school and district administrators would fully cooperate with authorities during the investigation.
Thursday’s announcement by police was much anticipated.
Bainbridge police initially estimated the investigation would last a week to a week and a half.
It spanned for more than two months.
The teacher was immediately placed on paid administrative leave after the allegations were made.
Peter Bang-Knudsen, associate superintendent of administrative services, said last week the teacher has been paid $7,028 as of April 29 while on suspension.
