JUNE 15
11:31 p.m. An apparently intoxicated Bainbridge woman was reported attempting to purchase wine at Safeway. Police stopped the woman after she exited the store’s parking lot in a Lexus. The woman appeared heavily intoxicated and fumbled while attempting to locate her identification and registration. She asked the officer if they could “do this later, I need to get home to my son.” The woman was arrested for driving under the influence. Breath tests performed during booking registered her blood alcohol content at 0.109. She was booked into Kitsap County Jail.
JUNE 16
7:48 p.m. A hit-and-run accident involving a car and a mini-bike was reported on High School Road in front of Safeway. A juvenile riding a bright green mini-bike had been motoring east on High School Road when a gold-colored SUV pulled out of the Safeway parking lot. The mini-bike struck the SUV but the SUV continued westbound on High School Road without stopping. The mini-bike rider lost two teeth and suffered a broken collar bone from the collision. The rider had only an instructional permit and said he knew he shouldn’t be riding on the street. Police searched but could not locate the SUV.
JUNE 17
7:47 p.m. Gunshots were reported in the area of Baker Hill Road and Sorrel Avenue. An officer responded and discovered that a nearby resident had been trying to kill a deer he had hit with his vehicle. The resident had fired at the deer several times with a rifle. The officer dispatched the deer with three shots from a department issued rifle.
JUNE 20
11:04 p.m. Police responded to a ferry at the terminal, where a Poulsbo man was reportedly acting drunk and belligerent. After walking onto the ferry, the man had struck a vehicle with his hands and acted aggressively toward other passengers. Police gave the man a ride home.
JUNE 21
3:11 a.m. An officer stopped a pickup on SR-305 near Hidden Cove Road after observing the vehicle swerve into the bicycle lane several times. The driver told the officer that he was driving badly because he was nervous. The officer noted an odor of alcohol emanating from the cab. The driver eventually admitted to having drunk several beers at a Mariners game and agreed to voluntary field sobriety tests. The man performed poorly on the tests and was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to Kitsap County Jail.
7:49 a.m. A Harborview Drive resident told police that a thief had taken potted ferns from the porch of her apartment. The ferns were valued at $50.
JUNE 23
2:39 p.m. A dinghy was stolen from an area outside the rowing club compound at Waterfront Park. The 6.5-foot Ranger dinghy was valued at $400. An officer advised the boat’s owner to keep an eye on online classified sites in case someone tried to hawk the boat. No suspects.
JUNE 24
11:27 a.m. Workers dismantling a portable classroom at Blakely Elementary School discovered a collection of pornographic materials stashed in a ceiling space. The items included several magazines, VHS tapes, unused condoms, a dozen pairs of womens panties and a 2001 hunting guide. A school official said that over the last decade the room had been used as office space. Police determined that the cache had likely been stored eight years ago. School employees destroyed the materials.
