Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:
NOVEMBER 5
7:49 p.m. A man returned to his vehicle at the Bethany Lutheran park-and-ride to find that its glove box was open and its ignition was hanging from the steering column. A variety box of candy and a black-and-silver Columbia parka were missing from the trunk. The man said the car had been locked. There were no signs of forced entry.
8:57 p.m. A woman reported being punched in the face by her 14-year-old son, while trying to make him do his homework instead of watching television. The woman suffered swelling to her face. The son was arrested for domestic assault and transported to Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center.
NOVEMBER 6
11:05 a.m. A Kingston driver was stopped after an officer observed his vehicle driving 37 mph in a 20 mph school zone near Ordway Elementary. The vehicle’s stop lamp was also defective. The driver had a suspended license and two outstanding warrants. He was cited and instructed not to drive.
11:30 a.m. A Bainbridge man reported fraud after a pair of new shoes he purchased off eBay turned out to be damaged. The man said he had bought the shoes for $109. After receiving the pair he noticed that there were two cuts on the side of one of the shoes. He emailed the seller, who instructed him to ship the shoes back for a refund. The man shipped the shoes back and never heard from the seller again. eBay and Paypal were notified.
2:18 p.m. A woman told police that someone had attempted to defraud her after she posted her condo for rent on the classified Web site Craigslist. The woman was requesting $950 per week for the space. A man claiming to be a doctor living in Seattle sent her a cashiers check for $4,000 with instructions to mail the remainder to an address in Georgia. The woman did not cash the check. The case was recorded.
2:36 p.m. A man reported attempted internet fraud. He had answered a wanted advertisement on Craigslist, requesting handymen. He said he sent the company his resume. The company sent the man a check for $4,950, with instructions to keep 10 percent and mail the remainder to an unspecified bank branch. This exercise was to test his trustworthiness as an employee, the company said. The man made a call and confirmed that the check was not valid. The check had been sent from Indianapolis, Ind. The case was recorded.
NOVEMBER 7
11:50 a.m. A Bainbridge woman reported ongoing harassment by a neighbor. She said the neighbor often trespassed on her property, parked his vehicles on her side of the street and allowed her dog to defecate in her yard. During the previous two days she had found a bag of animal waste and a toy in the field adjoining her home. The woman said she wasn’t entirely sure that the neighbor was involved, as most the incidents happened at night. The case was recorded.
NOVEMBER 8
2:35 p.m. A Bainbridge man reported that personal documents had been stolen from his bag during a stay in Quincy, Wash. A hotel employee had handled the man’s bag while he was attending a meeting. When the man returned to Bainbridge he realized he was missing personal paperwork. Police advised the man to put alerts on his accounts to watch for identity theft, and to contact police in Grant County.
5:20 p.m. A Bainbridge man was not injured when his Ford Rio made a sliding departure from SR-305. The man said he was driving in heavy traffic when he realized he was passing the intersection of Lovegreen Road where he needed to turn. The man made the turn too late and the vehicle skidded on the wet pavement, sliding into a ditch. Both airbags deployed. The vehicle’s front end sustained minor damage.
NOVEMBER 9
4:20 p.m. Police responded to a report of purse snatching at the public library. A Bainbridge woman said she had left her purse unattended briefly in a cubicle near the north end of the library’s main floor. When she returned it was missing. No one saw the purse taken. The bag was made of a woven brown material and had a long strap. The purse contained cash, a checkbook, a checkcard and a driver’s license. No suspects.
5:14 p.m. A moth was blamed for a two-car collision on North Madison Avenue. A Bainbridge woman driving a Subaru Legacy said she had been turning from Beachcrest Drive onto northbound North Madison Avenue, when she noticed a moth fluttering inside her car. The woman began swatting at the moth and her car veered across the centerline of the road, striking an oncoming Honda Accord. The Honda spun 270 degrees and came to rest facing north. Both vehicles were towed. The driver of the Subaru was cited for inattention to driving.
