Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

May 14

8:14 a.m. A woman reported that her daughter’s clothing was stolen out of her locker at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center during swimming practice.

The woman told police that on May 11 while her daughter was at swim practice someone entered the locker room and stole two tank tops from her locker. Items belonging to several other girls were taken from lockers as well.

Several items of clothing were found discarded on the floor, as if they had been tried on.

The value of the two tank tops was $75.

The woman had no information on potential suspects. Employees at the pool are also investigating the incident.

10:45 p.m. A witness reported a drunk driver nearly caused a head-on collision.

The witness saw the driver of a white Mercedes cross the center line of State Route 305 and almost hit another car.

Police caught up with the vehicle and observed it stopped at a stop sign with a turn signal on. There were no other cars around, but the driver failed to make a move.

Police later stopped the car as the driver’s husband was arriving. She exited the car and had trouble standing. Police noticed that her makeup was smeared and that she spoke slowly and deliberately.

After performing several sobriety tests, the woman asked to stop because of dizziness. Police arrested the woman for DUI, and as they began reading her rights she started yelling at them, blaming the police for her situation. She then refused to take a breathalyzer test and requested an attorney. A lawyer was called and she was taken to Kitsap County Jail on $5,000 bail.

May 15

1 a.m. Police discovered a single-car accident in which the driver fled the scene.

Police received word of a vehicle fire. Several callers reported seeing a man running from the area carrying a case of beer.

Officers found the truck resting against a guard rail on the side of the road. Tire tracks on the road indicated that the driver had drifted into a ditch and onto a guard rail, pulling up roughly 13 posts and destroying 90 feet of railing before coming to a stop.

While searching the area, an officer looked inside the truck and noticed two rifles on the floor. He also saw a chainsaw on the floor.

When the truck was safely removed from the guard rail, police collected the rifles and a pistol located in the center console. None of the weapons had a round in the chamber, but the pistol had a full magazine.

Police also located an empty can of Busch beer on the floor, which appeared to have been imbibed recently.

The case remains under investigation.

May 17

8:03 a.m. Police received reports that Commodore Options School was vandalized.

The school’s principal showed police a number of areas that had been spray-painted over the previous weekend.

On a building’s roof north of the office, police found the words “oh yeah” spray-painted with a smiley face. Officers could see from the roof several more areas where the vandalism had occurred. Throughout the school officers found renderings of a duck, three hearts, the word “boo,” along with drawings of a ghost and a spiral. The principal estimated the cost of the janitorial time spent cleaning the area at $100.
